Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, has been the head of the department since 2015.

The department "Technology of metals and labor protection" was formed in 1957 as part of the Faculty of Technology of the Tajik Polytechnic Institute, the management of which was entrusted to Associate Professor Bernstein ML.  In 1957 the department was transferred to the department of "Mechanics and technology".

 Department "Material science, machines and metallurgical equipment" as a specialized department from 2001 to 2020 has trained 385 specialists and 135 bachelors, who work and work in different industries of the Republic.For years of independence protected 4 doctoral and 12 doctoral dissertations. He also defended three more scientific dissertations.

Currently, the scientific and pedagogical activities of the department consists of eight units of work, which employs experienced teachers of pedagogical activity, such as: member of the Academy, Dr.-Ing, Associate Professor, M.M. Students of the specialty 360201-05 - "Material Science, Machines and Metallurgical Equipment" work in all industries of the country, gives the qualification of mechanical engineer. The department conducts classes in 17 disciplines on the specialty 360201-05 - "Material Science, Machines and Metallurgical Equipment". In 2010 the department began training bachelors in accordance with newly adopted plans. The department has a multilevel education, a bachelor's and a master's degree. Currently work is being done in this direction.

The current composition of the teaching staff of the department is actively involved in research work and presents their theoretical and practical research in many national and international conferences. Each year in the scientific journals of the republic and abroad are published more than 25 scientific articles of the teachers of the department. In the period 1974-2020. employees of the department made more than 40 scientific-research works, which were introduced in different branches of industry. The teachers of the department have achieved many innovations in different spheres of science and engineering, more than 30 patents and copyright certificates were defended. At the present time there are 8 full-time lecturers at the chair, including 2 professors, 2 candidates of science, associate professors, 4 candidates of science, senior lecturers and 2 auxiliary teachers, who also have higher technical education.

      The department of materials science, machines and metallurgical equipment has eight professional-technical laboratories, which strengthen the possibilities of improving the technical level of students. Due to our independence, the department has two research laboratories and one teaching laboratory. In the coming years it is planned to build and put into operation a modern technical laboratory at the Tajik Technical University. The entire teaching staff of the department is devoted to scientific work and research. Currently, the department has 4 teachers who are engaged in research work, the results of which are published at national and international conferences. In addition, the department of "Material science, metallurgical machinery and equipment" carries out research work on various topics.

        The Department of Material Science, Machines and Metallurgical Equipment has completed state-budget scientific work "Development of new corrosion-resistant alloys and new structural materials" for 2015-2020 and is working on a new topic.

In these years, teachers of the department on specialty 360201-05 Machinery and metallurgical equipment; on specialty 360701-03-Machinery and equipment of oil refining and petrochemical production conducted classes in more than 21 disciplines and created a methodological and training base for these disciplines.

Taking into account the requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Economic Development, the enrollment of students in the specialty 360701-03-Machines and Equipment for Refining and Petrochemical Production began in 2016, and in 2020 - a group of graduates.

Due to the independence in recent years with the support of the Government and the university administration the material and technical base of the department has been strengthened, the research work of undergraduates and graduate students has been established.
