The Department of Operation of Road Transport (ORT), established in 1958, was one of the main departments of the Transport Faculty. The first head of the department was elected candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Brailchuk Petr Leontyevich. Being the founder of the department, he taught almost all disciplines of the department in his specialty. Under his leadership and direct participation of the senior teacher Skvortsov V.I. and laboratory assistant R. Temirgalieva, the first laboratories of the department began to be created.
Due to the increase in the volume of work in the industry and the need for motorists, in 1964 the department "Technical operation of vehicles" was divided into two departments: "Motor transport" and "Automotive repair production".
From 1969 to 1972 the head of both departments was candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Karaev G.O. This period was the heyday of the Department, where candidate of technical sciences. R.A., Ligay V.V., senior lecturers Fattidinov B.R., Mironov E.A., Gursky G.N., Skvortsov V.I. and etc.
In subsequent years, the heads of the department "Motor Transport" were: candidate of technical sciences, associate professors Aliev V.A. (1972-1985), Kalandarov A.Kh. (1985-1996), Jamalov A.A. (1996-2003); the heads of the department "Automotive Repair Production" were: candidate of technical sciences., associate professors Tashtabanov R.A. (1978-1983), Toshev Kh.U. (1983-1993).
From 2003 to 2009 the head of the united department "Operation of Motor Vehicles", worked as Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Tursunov A.A., and in the period 2009-2014 the head of this department was candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Abdulloev M.A.
From 2014 to 2016 was the candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Davlatshoev R.A. was elected as the head of department. From 2016 to 2022 Candidate of technical sciences, Yunusov M.Yu. was elected as the head of the department.
Since February 15, 2022, the department has been headed by candidate of technical sciences Toshev J. Sh.
Over the years of its existence, the department has trained more than 4,000 engineers. Within the walls of the department, 1 doctoral and 17 master's theses were defended. For the training of scientific personnel, the department has close ties with the leading universities of the Russian Federation.
In the period 2009-2014 professor of the department Tursunov Abdukakhor Abdusamadovich was a member of two foreign dissertation councils. The staff of the department published 60 monographs and teaching aids. The results of the research work of the staff of the department are published in many scientific journals and collections.
Associate professors of the department Abdulloev M.A. and Davlatshoev R.A. completed seven-month courses at the International Institute for Advanced Studies (Internationales Institut für Berufsbildung) in Mannheim (Germany) and got acquainted with the activities of such giants of the automotive industry as the Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen car factories.
Since the foundation of the department and to this day, the staff of the department has been engaged in research work. In October 1968, the All-Union Conference was held at TPI, at which more than 500 reports by leading scientists of the Soviet Union on the problems of car operation in mountainous conditions were heard. On the part of Tajik scientists, 23 articles were included in the collection of works of the conference, of which 15 articles belonged to the teaching staff of the TEA department of TPI.
In the direction of improving the scientific and pedagogical skills of the staff of the department, the role of prominent scientists, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professors G.V. Kramarenko, A.N. Ostrovtsev, A.K. Frumkin, Ya.E. Farobin, A.M. Sheinin, M.S. Hovah leading their scientific activities at the departments of “Operation of road transport”, “Automobiles”, “Operation of Road Construction Machines”, “Heat Engineering and Automotive and Tractor Engines” of MADI, as well as professors of the department of “Road Transport” of Vladimir State University I.N. Arinina.
Currently, the research work of the department is carried out in the direction of “Improving the reliability of operation and developing a methodology for adapting vehicles to mountain conditions”.
The department trains specialists in the specialties "Automobile and Automobile Facilities", "Technical Operation of Vehicles", "Organization of Traffic" and "Professional Training".
Currently, the department has 8 candidates of technical sciences, 5 senior teachers, 2 assistants. For fruitful work in training personnel in the motor transport industry of the republic, 5 employees of the department were awarded the signs “Excellent worker in education of the Republic of Tajikistan” and “Honored transport worker of the Republic of Tajikistan”.
