Azizov Yusuf Samievich - head of the department, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor
Training of specialists for enterprises of textile, light and cotton processing industry at the Tajik polytechnic Institute began in 1956 on a specialty 1101 - "Primary processing of fibrous materials", specialty "Processing of cotton" and 1102 - "Spinning of natural and chemical fibres".
In order to ensure the teaching process of the specialty disciplines in 1958 the chair of Processing of fibrous materials was created and it functioned till 1961. The first teachers of the chair were Rahimov N.R. (head of chair), Saidov H.S., Bugayenko M., Martynova N.S., Dzutseva V.N.
Because of the shortage of specialists and laboratories, students who entered in 1957 after the fourth year and in 1958 after the second year were sent to continue their studies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tashkent and Ivanovo. In 1961, 14 students were the first to graduate from the Tashkent Institute of Light and Textile Industry as engineering technologists.
Since 1971 in the Polytechnic Institute of Tajikistan has begun reception and graduation of students of a direction 0568 - "Machinery and devices of textile industry" on a specialty "Primary processing of fibrous materials (cotton)".
The specialized chair for the development of which a worthy contribution was made by the head of the chair, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Rakhimov N.R. - a graduate of Tashkent Institute of Light and Textile Industry (1949) - was established in 1974. Initially, the department was called "Technology, machines and devices for primary cotton processing and heat engineering".
In those years, under the leadership of N.R.Rahimov and with the active participation of teachers Saidov H.S, Zulfonov S.Z, Lavrinenko P.N, Akhmedov F.D, Hodzhiev A.A and head of the laboratory Petrasyuk V.F., for the organization of the educational process at the department were created laboratories - primary cotton processing, textile materials and technological equipment for the primary processing of cotton.
Scientists from Moscow and Tashkent - Sevostyanov A.G., Balakin V.G., Hojinova M.A., Zhabborov G.J., Boltaboev S.D., Roganov B.I. and others have contributed significantly to the formation and development of the department. In 1976 with the support of these teachers in the Polytechnic Institute of Tajikistan took place the first promotion of engineers on a specialty 0568 - "Machines and equipments for textile industry", which numbered 17 persons. With the creation of the chair "Thermal Engineering and Heating Equipment" in the structure of the TTU named after Academician M. S. Osimi in 2000, the chair was renamed to "Technology, machines and devices for primary treatment of cotton.
The department was headed by leading specialists of the branch Rakhimov Nazir Rakhimovich in 1956-1987, from 1987 to 1990 by candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Ahmedov Farhod Dilbarovich, from 1990 to 2007 by acting professor Zulfonov Sulaimon Zulfonovich, candidate of technical sciences, from 2007 to 2019 by associate professor Safarov Fuzail Metinovich and from 2019 by associate professor Azizov Yusuf Samievich.
Under current economic conditions most of the former cotton and textile enterprises have been transformed into joint-stock companies and new textile enterprises have been established, which required training of highly qualified engineers. Taking this into account, since 2001 the Tajik Technical University has started training specialists in the direction of 6560 - "Technology and design of textile products", specialty 2801 - "Technology and equipment for production of natural fibres. "The training of engineers for the textile industry was started with the specialty 2803 - "Technology of textile products".
Since 2008 has begun preparation of engineers on specialties 1-500101-08 - "Technology and the equipment for manufacture of natural fibres" and 1-500101-09 - "Technology of textile materials", and after transition to credit system of higher education preparation of bachelors on these specialties has begun. The development of the textile industry in the country compelled the department to retrain specialists in the specialties 1-500101-01 - "Spinning of natural fibres" and 1-360801-02 - "Machinery and equipment for textile industry" in 2015. In connection with structural changes in the field of complete processing of cotton and the needs of the textile industry in 2008, the department changed its name to "Technology and equipment for cotton processing", and in 2016 to "Technology of natural fiber processing".
The department has close links with universities and research institutes in the Commonwealth of Independent States. These include the Tashkent Institute of Light and Textile Industry named after Okhunboboyev. Kostroma State Technological University, Kosygin Moscow State University, Ivanovo State Academy of Textiles, St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, Tajik Technological University

More than 1500 engineers, technologists and mechanics for cotton and textile industry who made the significant contribution to the development of national economy have been trained at the department during the years of its existence. Many graduates of these specialties are the heads of ministries and departments, directors and chief engineers of cotton refineries, employees of research and design organizations, higher educational institutions and research institutes.
The scientific work of the department "Development and introduction of advanced technologies in cotton ginning industry", the authors of which are Zulfonov S.Z., Safarov F.M. and Ibrohimov H.I., in 2016 was awarded the prize of academician Umarov S.U. in the field of science and technology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The contribution of scientists from higher educational institutions and research institutes in Tashkent of the Republic of Uzbekistan, St. Petersburg and Kostroma of the Russian Federation is enormous for the preparation of candidate and doctoral theses. Among them we should mention first of all Doctor of Engineering, professor Levkovich B.A., and also Boltaboev S.D., Korabelnikov R.V., Khafizov I.K. Ashnin N.M., Chelishev A.M., Morokov A.A.
